            An Alabama college will transition to online learning for the remainder of the fall semester due to damage from Hurricane Zeta.

            Judson College in Marion closed residence halls and ended in-person classed on Friday, a move college officials was made to “promote the health and safety of our students and college community.” Judson’s semester was scheduled to end Nov. 24.

            One of the issues leading to the closure was damage to Marion’s water system following Zeta. The Alabama Department of Public Health suspended hot food preparation throughout the city of Marion and the city is under a boil water notice. Students were provided with prepackaged food through breakfast on Nov. 6 but issues with food service and water forced the campus closures.

            “The decision to move to online instruction for the final two weeks of the semester will allow our on-campus students to complete their coursework without concern for water quality or food preparation in the aftermath of Hurricane Zeta,” Judson said in a statement.

            All student activities for the remainder of the semester were canceled and students will receive prorated credits for room and board.
