Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey met with U.S. Senator-elect Tommy Tuberville in her office this afternoon.

Press Secretary Gina Maiola said the governor congratulated Tuberville on his win and noted the importance of reclaiming the seat for the Republican Party. Tuberville defeated U.S. Sen. Doug Jones, who had flipped the seat to the Democratic Party three years ago.

Tuesday’s election left the Republican and Democratic parties in a neck-and-neck battle for control of the Senate. The outcome is unclear because of a few undecided races, as the Associated Press reported.

Tuberville and the governor also talked about priorities, including expansion of broadband access in Alabama, Maiola said.

Tuberville, the former Auburn University football coach, was making his first run for public office.
