How to apply for jobs at Amazon’s new Birmingham area distribution centers

Amazon is now accepting applications for jobs at two new Birmingham-area facilities, which are expected to open next year.

The online retail giant says its Amazon Logistics arm has signed a lease to open two new delivery stations in central Alabama, one in Birmingham and one in Bessemer. The delivery stations will be the last stop for packages coming from the company’s new Bessemer fulfillment center before being delivered in the Birmingham area.

Those interested can apply at www.amazon.com/jobs.

The company said in a news release that those two new facilities will create “hundreds of full and part-time associate jobs, all paying at least $15 per hour, in addition to hundreds of driver opportunities for Amazon’s Delivery Service Partners and Amazon Flex drivers.”

The Amazon center in Birmingham is expected to bring 300 full-time jobs and more than 1,000 part-time jobs, while the Bessemer fulfillment center employs more than 1,500 full-time employees. Packages destined to be delivered will arrive boxed and ready for van delivery to addresses across the Birmingham area.

“Amazon’s announcement signals the resilience of our economy and the emergence of Birmingham as a logistics hub in the Southeast,” Birmingham Mayo Randall Woodfin said in a news release. “It goes directly to our priority of job creation. It also provides a great opportunity to redevelop this strategic district of our city.”

The delivery stations set to open in Alabama “power the last mile of our order process and help speed up deliveries for customers," the company said. Packages are shipped to a delivery station from neighboring Amazon fulfillment and sortation centers, loaded into delivery vehicles and delivered to customers.

In addition, the company says it will hire independent contractors as delivery drivers through a program called Amazon Flex.
